New carnival launched

Jul 17, 2019High Wycombe events

High Wycombe will be transformed into a sea of colour, music and dancing next month as we launch our brand-new community carnival in Desborough Road.

The one-day event, which takes place on August 11, is free to attend and will be “jam packed” with entertainment for all ages – including live music, arts and craftsand a variety of food and drink stalls celebrating cuisine from across the globe.

As well as live musical performances and workshops throughout the day, the event will also include a street parade at 3pm – with visitors, community groups and local businesses encouraged to dress up in their most eye-catching costumes and take part. Entry is £1 and all proceeds go to local charity, Oasis Partnership. Prizes will be on offer for those judged to have the ‘best costume’.

Festivities will kick off at 11am at Wycombe Arts Centre in Desborough Road.

Discussing the idea behind the event, BID manager Melanie Williams said ‘We want to raise the profile of Desborough Road businesses, celebrate the diverse artistic community and bring colour and celebration to an area that has previously been ‘downtrodden’ but is now an ‘up and coming’ part of the town centre.’
