We’re thrilled to announce that High Wycombe’s Priory Avenue footbridge has received a vibrant new makeover, thanks to a community art project we’ve been proud to support.

The stunning new artwork, painted by local artists Dan ‘Decreate’ Wilson and Teakster, brings to life some of Wycombe’s most iconic images, showcasing the town’s rich history and culture.

This project, a collaboration between HWBIDCo, Friends of Wycombe Art Centre, Network Rail, and Buckinghamshire Council, is part of our ongoing efforts to improve public spaces around High Wycombe and enhance the town centre’s overall appeal. The artwork draws inspiration from High Wycombe’s heritage, reflecting the unique character of our town and adding a colourful touch to the local area.

Alongside the artwork, Network Rail has been clearing litter and overgrown shrubs from the surrounding embankments and railway lines, while volunteers from the community have been tidying up Birdcage Walk. It’s all part of a larger initiative to make the area more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

Arif Hussain, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, commented, “We are thrilled to see the transformation of Priory Avenue footbridge through this wonderful community art project – led by award-winning Bucks artists, Dan ‘Decreate’ Wilson and Teakster, who we thank warmly for their wonderful work.

This initiative not only beautifies the town but also fosters a sense of pride and connection among residents. It is a testament to the creativity and dedication of our local artists and volunteers.”

Fraser Pithie, Network Rail’s Community Manager for the Central Route, also expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It’s fulfilling and very worthwhile meeting and working with our neighbours in High Wycombe. We have interacted with several local people and organisations, and with the leadership from Buckinghamshire Council and our support, it is wonderful to see the improvement that the volunteers and community have made at Priory Avenue footbridge”

This art installation is part of the Opportunity Bucks programme, which aims to enhance public spaces and create new opportunities across Buckinghamshire. As part of this initiative, Network Rail is also working on improvements to the Birdcage Walk underpass, with more updates to come.

At HWBIDCo, we’re committed to supporting projects that celebrate our town and contribute to a vibrant, thriving High Wycombe. We’re excited to see how these improvements continue to transform the town centre.
